Taegeukgi signed by freedom fighter Kim Gu

김구 서명문 태극기

This Taegeukgi was given in 1941 by Kim Gu (1876–1949), President of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, to Father Charles Meeus (梅雨絲), a Belgian priest and close friend, who was traveling from China to the United States. On the flag is Kim Gu’s handwritten message in ink, urging overseas Koreans to support the Korean Liberation Army. After arriving in the U.S., Father Meeus passed the flag to Lee Hye-ryeon, the wife of independence activist Ahn Chang-ho. It was preserved by their descendants as one of Ahn’s cherished belongings and was eventually donated to the Independence Hall of Korea on March 11, 1985. Reimagined by edc8ang as an embroidered patch, this design captures the enduring spirit of resistance from that era.
